Moritz Skiing Sunglasses Review

About Moritz Sport Ski Goggles:

The other day when we were having a tete-tete with one of our skier friends on how to avoid skiing accidents, the discussion boiled down to a single point – wearing proper ski goggles! Believe it or not, putting on the right skiing sunglass that fits you properly around the helmet is really important for protecting your eyes from the harsh weather. With this in mind, we review the Moritz Skiing Sunglasses from Rapid eye wear.

Design features:

The Moritz Skiing Sunglass is brought to you by Moritz, part of the Rapid Eyewear Alpine collection of sunglasses for winter sports. The stylish Moritz ski goggles come with a matt black frame with silver trim. What’s more impressive is the integration of innovative and clever removable side arms that you can replace with a durable strap when you are on the slopes. In the most rudimentary form, they are a pretty smart pair of wrap-around sports sunglasses, but add to them the foam windshield insert that sits inside the skiing goggle and stylish strap, unclipping the side arms and presto you have a specification pair of sunglasses for the novice and advanced skiers alike.

Moritz Skiing Sunglass

TR90 Frames:

Coming to the all important frame, the sunglass features an extremely tough frame, made from TR90. For those who have no idea about what a TR90 frame is, it is a highly advanced nylon-based material that gives the frame much needed strength, flexibility and memory retention. Though they are lightweight, it can withstand the toughest snow conditions without shattering or losing its finish. The nylon-like material by any means is better than polycarbonate lens which means the skier can expect a great deal of protection in the event of an accident. The rubber side arm inserts make for a pretty comfortable fit.  We love that the nose pieces are adjustable which ensure that the glass does not slip off when you are in your elements.

Anti-fogging Lens:

The last thing a skier wants is fog in the goggles and lying in snow after crash in fog. This is the reason why the Moritz Sunglass lens features an anti-fogging capability. Thanks widely to the special coating applied to the inside surface of the lenses to prevent the fogging of the lens. Another common problem for most skiers is glare from the sun and snow which can be effectively reduced by the mirror tinted finish. Mind you, fogging can be a real problem on the snow, but with the Moritz ski goggles, you can enjoy much appreciable glare reduction and they look cool too!

Decentred lens:

Like all Rapid Eyewear sport sunglasses, the Moritz features decentred lenses. While the wrapped-framed sunglass provides maximum peripheral vision, we had no idea why decentred lenses are used, so we contacted the manufacturer and we were told that they are a specialized lens technology that makes use of highly curved lens to maintain the optical clarity, In the decentred lenses, the optical centre is slightly offset from the mechanical centre needed to correctly align with the eye, placing a curved lens in front of the face. This is to provide distortion free vision, so important to a skier’s performance.

CATEGORY.3 lenses:

The Moritz ski Goggle is fitted with a CATEGORY.3 lens, a tint that opticians best describe as a ‘standard’ level of UV light filtering. The lenses are darkly tinted and with 80-90% light transmission levels, it improves vision in fog and diffuses light conditions, so they are highly recommended for bright light conditions. The bottom-line is that it can give you 100% UVA/UVB protection and comply with EN 1836 and US Z80.3 standards for safety eyewear.

Changing to Ski mode:

It could not get easier to change the Moritz from a pair of sports sunglasses into skiing goggles. You can go about doing this in just three steps, one unclip the side arms and gently pull them out, second attach the tough, wide head strap and third adjust the strap length to suit your preference. And that’s it; you need not have to go for a separate pair of ski goggles.

Accessories:

Every pair of the Moritz Skiing/Sports sunglass comes with a microfiber carry pouch which you can use it as a cleaning cloth too. A head strap is also included that makes sure the eyewear is held securely on the head and accounts for a snug fit perfect for skiing use.

Moritz Skiing Sunglass Package

Overall:

As additional information, the sunglass has been tested to the point of destruction with Airsoft, which suggests that it can be used for shooting too. The selling point of course is that it can easily change from sunglass to goggles and vice-versa. With anti-fog capabilities, mirror finish, airsoft-safe lightweight frame and removable foam insert for added protection, the Moritz Ski Sunglasses are just more than a run-of-the-mill sports eyewear!

Aqua Sphere Kayenne Swimming Goggles

Much research and technology has gone into the manufacture of Swimming Goggles in recent times. The importance of having tough, lightweight, flexible and safe glasses is of utmost importance for the avid swimmer. These goggles are highly practical in allowing the swimmer see under water. The following review throws lights on the Aqua Sphere Kayenne Swimming Goggle, nice looking eyewear that gets the job done with virtually no leaks and misting up nicely complimented by a superb fit.

Aqua Sphere is a leading swimming equipment maker for fitness swimming, swim training and triathlon events with a wide range of innovative eyewear and accessories including the Kaiman, Vista, Mako, Seal and Kayenne goggles, all made of high quality materials with state-of-the-art aquatics product technology.

Aqua Sphere Kayenne Swimming Goggle

Design features:

The Aqua Sphere Kayenne Swimming Goggles are perfect for smaller adults or adolescent faces. Most swim goggles that we had tested and reviewed so far feature polycarbonate lens. But, this swimming goggle comes with an oversized, ultra durable Plexisol lens which is ten times stronger and twenty times lighter than glass, making it the ultimate in aquatic eye protection. The lenses are designed to offer the maximum visibility indoors or in low or dim light.

Enhanced vision:

With oversized lenses, the Kayenne gives you Aqua Sphere patented curve lens technology, which offers the swimmer with great style while giving you undistorted, 4-point expanded, 180 degree field of vision. This accounts for up and down visibility. The advantage is that, as the manufacturer puts it ‘Four Points of View are always better than one’. The wrap-around style of the goggle enhances the vision both ahead and sideways with high level of comfort.

Frame material:

Coming to the material of the frame, the Kayenne swimming goggle features a one-piece, all new slim hydrodynamic microframe made of Softeril material which is quite soft and hypoallergenic and provides much comfort to the user. Besides, it gives 100% protection from the harmful UVA and UVB rays. The hydrodynamic microframe will keep the goggle close to the face for better, low-drag hydrodynamic performance, i.e., it reduces the friction of the water, producing very little drag  when swimming under water. Also, visually you will not be able to see the frame of the goggles when you are actually wearing due to the design.

Perfect fit:

The smart-looking goggle is integrated with a One-touch, Quick-Fit, updated Buckle giving you the perfect fit easier and faster than ever. The buckles are made of soft materials, therefore the goggles snugly fit along the shape of the swimmer’s face. This means that the swimmer can adjust his fit even while swimming and more importantly, can be much focused on the workout rather than fiddling with the goggle. It is completely assembled with an adjustable silicone strap and a soft-seal frame that guarantees superior comfort at all times.

There is also an adjustable, stabilizing nose bridge that can be customized to fit a range of face shapes. The goggle comes complete with a split head strap for secure, optimal fit and ensures high performance. The nose bridge is soft and will not hurt your nose.

Leak-resistant goggle:

The goggle seems to be a little bigger around the eye sockets and do not leak at all, but sparing initially at the bottom of the goggle which can be sorted out with a slight adjustment. Thanks to the Aqua Sphere technology that results in leak resistant fit and prevents water from irritating the swimmer’s eyes as irritation can result in blurred vision. This can ultimately stop you from swimming to the best of your ability. With just a gentle push onto the face, it can create a tight seal around the eyes by forcing a little air out. Just as an observation, the goggles do not leave marks even after 30 minutes of swimming.

Anti-fog lens:

Though the Aqua Sphere Kayenne goggle features Anti-fog lens, we loosened them up too much and they fogged up a little. A bit tighter and they are completely leak free.  There is an issue of condensation on the inside of the lenses and that is after 1000 yards of swimming with them. The goggle is pretty easy to tighten and release with the quick release buttons either side of the lenses. The lenses are naturally scratch resistant having a scratch resistant coating in order to extend their life span.

Reduction of glare:

The Aqua Sphere Kayenne Swimming Goggles are available with clear lenses, tinted lenses and blue lenses, all of which are designed to reduce glare off the water and give you maximum visibility outdoors or in bright light conditions. There is also a wide assortment of funky colour schemes including Black/Bronze, Black/Red, Black/Silver, Blue, White/Silver & Transparent/Black available for you to choose from. The eyewear is protected by a clear and durable storage case. They also come in a women’s version to fit smaller faces.

Aqua Sphere Kayenne Goggle White

Warranty:

The manufacturer offers lifetime warranty on any manufacturing defect on the safety eyewear.

Drawbacks:

Having a closer look, one small issue we found is that you have to position the goggle quite specifically, otherwise you may get a leak, but once you get that position they are really great.

Verdict:

Some of the factors considered in rating the goggle include fitting mechanism, watertight & fog-free features and of course the comfort level. Tests showed that there was no leakage whatsoever even after 50 lengths fast crawl. Because it is a hybrid between a regular goggle and a mask, you also get the comfort and visibility of a mask. This goggle should sit rather close to the top of any essential swimming kit list. Without it, it will be highly uncomfortable to train and practice swimming in a chlorinated pool and hard to view where you are moving in a vast open stretch of water. To conclude, it should be absolutely fair to say that these goggles offer a wonderful view under water with an adjustable band for a safe and comfortable swim experience, though they are slightly expensive than others.

Oakley Fives Squared Sunglasses Review

Oakley founded in 1975, with nearly 575 patents and 1100 trademarks is a major sport and lifestyle brand that produces high performance sunglasses, goggles, prescription lenses and frames. Its leading brand portfolio includes Eye Safety Systems, Fox Racing, Mosley Tribes, Oakley, Paul Smith Spectacles and Oliver People. The Oakley Fives Squared Sunglasses is another innovative Sports/ Athletics sunglass. If ordinary sunglass does not fit, then Fives Squared is the way to go.

Oakley Fives Squared Sunglass

Condensed Cranial Geometry:

We know that conventional sunglasses stick out at the sides, but this Fives Squared sunglass make use of Condensed Cranial Geometry is a tapered design that could curve with your face. Besides, it produces a comfortable fit and offers protection on small to medium faces because wind, UV and projectiles do not avoid the challenge of tighter targets. The sculpturally integrated hinges are made with dual cam action that helps fit perfectly well to the wearer’s head size without applying any pressure and is designed in a way so as to always return to its desired position. This construction also accounts for greater durability. Dimensional reliefs and Metal Square O Icon design of the sunglass gives it a cool, street-smooth style.

Three-Point Fit:

The Three-Point Fit helps comfortably hugs the nose and behind the ears while they hold the lenses in accurate optical alignment, thereby maximizing comfort. This Oakley Fives Squared eyewear comes with High Definition Optics (HDO) that gives you clear, crisp images while it blocks the glare from water, snow or other reflective surfaces guaranteeing you the best visual performance.

Frame material:

This sunglass features an O MATTER frame material making the sunglass stress-resistant, impact-resistant, light-weight and adds to your all-day comfort. The optical precision & performance and impact protection of this sunglass conforms to ANSI Z87.1 basic impact standards. The 8.75 base lens curvature of the eye wear provide extended peripheral vision and better side protection against sunlight, wind and impact. The XYZ Optics, one of the patented innovations does not distort light/images like most sunglasses and maintains sharp, visual clarity in all directions/angles.

Plutonite Lens coating:

This Oakley Fives Squared Sports & Athletic sunglass also utilizes a substance called Plutonite for coating the lens that filters out and blocks 100% of UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400 nm from the sun. On using, we found that the Plutonite is placed right in the lenses than simply being a coating. The FIVES SQUARED can be suitably fitted with Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses (+2.00 to -4.00 combined power); therefore this pair of sunglass will help you see whatever you want to see pretty clearly. There is an optional IRIDIUM lens coating available that helps in the reduction of glare and precisely balance light transmission.

Oakley Fives Squared Sunglass Colours

Available Lenses:

Oakley has a gamut of colours available for corrective lenses and if you go for the non-prescription version, there is a wide range of stylish hues to choose from. Many a times, truer colour recognition is important when you are trailing down a mountain. There are a wide range of lenses available including Warm Grey, Black Iridium & Black Iridium Polarized for bright sun or Grey for medium bright light.

100% UV protection & increased visual contrast:

When you require visual contrast and increased depth perception, go for Bronze Polarized or Dark Bronze, both of which perform exceedingly well in bright sunlight. The polarized lens on this sunglass will kill 99% of glare without disturbing your vision with the haze and distortion generally found with ordinary polarized lenses. You do not have to worry about breaking because if the arms come off, they can pop right back into place. Also, the sunglass is anti-scratch resistant and does not scratch easily.

Accessories:

Sunglass accessories including Large Soft Vault, Large Metal Vault, Fives Squared / Fives 3.0 Replacement Lenses and Lens Cleaning Kit are available which you have to purchase individually. It is recommended that you get a large metal vault case for added storage protection.

Drawbacks:

One of the disadvantages is that this sunglass tends to sometimes fog in the cold. They are also a bit loose if you have a small head and the bridge above the nose is slightly bigger and so they may occasionally slide down.

Conclusion:

Created for outdoors wear, this Oakley sunglass is rough and tumble and is subjected to thorough testing before prior to being polarized. The lens does not pop out of the frame and its shatter-proof property makes it easily one of the most popular sunglasses among professional athletes.

Baby Banz Classic Sunglass

Baby Banz has been offering quality Sunglasses, Ski goggles and Swim goggles for children & kids since their UK launch in 2002 and has fast gained reputation for offering excellent sun protection for them. Baby Banz Classic Sunglasses provide quality eye protection for infants and children who are aged 0-2 years.

UV400/category 3 polycarbonate lenses:

Baby sunglasses are important for various reasons. It is good that Baby Banz has realized this when they came up with UV400/category 3 polycarbonate lenses on the sunglass. We all know that children and infants have an increased risk of UV damage to the eyes as their lenses are clearer. Their eyes do not have the ability to block as much UV rays like mature eyes do.

Baby Banz Classic Sunglass Red

This Baby Banz Classic  sunglass with UV400/category 3 polycarbonate lenses help protect the child’s delicate eyes from the effects of harmful UVA and UVB radiation that could damage the surface of the eye including the lens and retina. Therefore, infants should be protected from cataracts and retina damage, both of which are not easily reversed. This does not mean that you should not let your kids play indoors as with this sunglass on, they can afford to spend a considerable amount of time outdoors especially during warm weathered months.

Moulded polycarbonate frames:

This sunglass is made of durable, moulded polycarbonate frames which we know is generally shatter-proof that adds a lot of comfort as well as safety. The polycarbonate frames on Babybanz sunglasses also accounts for a close fit to the baby’s face with lesser or no UV leakage from the sunglass’s sides. A soft silicon nose and brow piece is inserted in the polycarbonate frame. This soft, flexible silicone nose piece is an allergy-free nose pad making it comfortable enough to wear it all day long.

Adjustable neoprene strap:

Now comes the question if whether this sunglass could hold the lenses firmly in front of your baby’s eyes and if your baby is comfortable wearing this sunglass. This original wrap-around neoprene strap makes sure the glasses fit your baby’s face. Count on the strap’s Velcro adjustment that is quite soft around his head and this means that he can adjust the strap to fit and hold the sunglasses on. Also, the baby need not have to remove the headband and there is lesser chance for it to slide down the nose. Another feature that we find pretty interesting is that it did not leave behind any red marks or other telltale imprints on the baby even after an extended period of use.

Baby Banz Classic Sunglass Green

Warranty against defects:

Baby Banz warrants this sunglass against breakage caused due to defects in workmanship and material for 6 months from the date of purchase.

Other features:

This baby sunglass is available in two sizes and a wide assortment of funky colours namely Aqua, Blue, Camouflage Green, Camouflage Grey, Green, Red and Yellow. This design patented sunglass carries the CE mark and is compliant with EU sunglasses standard BSEN 1836:1997.

Conclusion:

Experts recommend that your baby can start wearing this sunglass as early as seven or eight months so that when they attain the pulling and tugging age, it will not be much of an issue. Some Baby Banz sunglass wearers have even gone to the extent of testing their baby into the sun with this sunglass on to find that they did not squint or shy away as they normally do.
